What do you think about how the media "blames" alot of societies problems on music?

I can recall lots of incidents where the media focused lots of attention on music and the artist that make there money on that music. For example Maryln Manson was looked at for what Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold did with the Columbine High School Shootings. Do you think that these artist play a role , or they are just seen as an "outlet" for answers??
 
Music is indeed powerful and can be a strong influence if you allow it. Ultimately though, people are responsible for their own actions. Can't blame a song or an artist for deciding to blast up a school or do a drive-by....that's totally to be blamed on the ignorance of the joker holding the gun.

The music artists are definitely scapegoated. The idea that music, or poetry, or a painting could lead two kids (who were largely ignored by their parents as teens by the way) to kill others is bogus.

I am not a huge Marylin Manson fan. In fact, most of his music annoys me, but he was not at all responsible for what Harris and Klebold did.

I remember in Bowling for Columbine, Michael Moore asked Manson that if he had the chance, what he would say to Harris and Klebold."

And Marylin Manson said something like, "I would not have said anything. I would have listened to them -- and that's what no one did."

ITS NOT MUSIC IN ITSELF, BUT THE STYLE AND TYPE OF MUSIC. STYLES OF MUSIC SEEMS TO HAVE THE POWER TO OVERCOME WEAK MINDED PEOPLE, WHO ARE ALSO WEAK TO PEER PRESSURE. MUSIC SPEAKS TO PEOPLE AND TELL THEM HOW TO ACT DRESS AND SPEAK, FOR LABLING PURPOSES.IN THIS CASE THOSE BOYS ALREADY HAD ISSUES OF THEIR OWN, AND NEEDED SOMETHING TO PUMP THEM UP.
