My cousin took a college religion class about all the religious overtones in the Simpsons. Any examples that you know of?

Dammit all, why can't my college offer classes like that?

Between this and the Super Smash Brothers Theory class at Oberlin, I missed out!

Lisa is an atheist
Its almost as good as the "Entomology of the Far Side" course at my school.

Would be an interesting way of identifying any number of modern, American perceptions of religion. The "goody-goody" born again neighbor who repeatedly makes stupid decisions in the name of his faith, Lisa's search for God in one episode, Bart's (and Homer's) interpretation of God that shows up in many episodes. Sounds like a fun class...as long as it was taught properly.

There was a really good one in one of the early seasons called "Homer the Heretic" in which, Homer founds his own religion so he could sleep in on Sundays.

when homer runs in the church yelling SANCTUARY because the creatures from PBS are chasing him...and the priest says " I SHOULD HAVE NEVER TAUGHT HIM THAT WORD" .... on the same episode when he is on the plane he says "BUT I DON"T EVEN BELIEVE IN JEEBUS"
