What do you thin of AIG VP rant?

Evidently a VP of AIG whose leadership resulted in the company losing 10's of billions is now quitting after receiving his "Retention Bonus" because he's upset that AIG president didn't tell congress and teh american people the BOnsus for failed execs living in Enfield Ct was too much and distasteful. To me he's a big baby...although I like that he's donating his money to charity, and I am glad he's quitting...the fact is to me he seems like a brat...what do you think...do your hearts go out to the poor multimillionaire execs or do you think they performed badly, took advantage of the bailouts, and now are crying boo hoo?
 
I really do not understand why anyone would get a bonus when they have not done a good job, and in fact caused their company to fail miserably. I get a bonus for a job well done.
 
The Administration should not have bailed them out, if they were going to get so upset over the bonuses. They only do their homework on the company AFTER bailing them out?!?! (i.e. giving them $160+ billion) It seems odd to me to bail them out and then in the stimulus plan put in a clause to protect bonuses, then demand the bonuses back. All this while ACORN is busing around protesters to the AIG employees houses; and manufacturing a scene for the media, to help bolster support against the bonuses. What is going on in this country?

And the reason they get paid in bonuses is because back in the 90s some "SMART" guys in Washington made it so the government does not TAX bonuses. So, when they say bonuses on the news they actually just mean their salary, it not really a bonus. It's just a TAX free salary. People should be outraged that they don't have to pay taxes on their salaries, not that they are getting a salary. The bulk of the money they make a year come from bonuses, for the reason I stated above. So really the Government is demanding they work for FAR less then what these people are expecting and thus, you will not retain any good talent in the company and this is why the Government should not run businesses.

On top of all of this it is Illegal to tax the bonuses in the way to congress is proposing, it is against the Constitution of the United States of America. But no one seems to care anymore.
 
Sounds like a smart, caring, realistic thinking guy with a conscience to me. And I'm SHOCKED that he was an exec of AIG and not a greedy pig, and that he actually donated his money to charity and quit his job for the reason that he gave !!!!!! Wow!

And yes I think that most took advantage. And I don't believe that all of them earned those super huge bonuses either.
 
I reviewed the answers that you have gotten so far, I'm amazed. He was a very smart big baby. What he did was give the money to a charity and guess what he gets to write most of that off on his taxes. This guy is a very smart,if he kept the money he would be paying high taxes on it. If he gave it back, no tax breaks. He was very smart. I'm still ticked over the ones out side of this country that we can't even touch, we have got to be the laughing joke of the world right now. And the American people had no voice in this matter. Am I wrong...
 
you mean the VP who had NOTHING to do with the losses and was working to repair the damage? you mean, one of the AIG employees who have been living with daily public vilification, including death threats against themselves and their families?

you mean those bonuses that were disclosed to the government last year, and were okayed by OBAMA'S treasury secretary? you mean those bonuses protected by legislative provisions inserted at the direction of the OBAMA administration by CHRIS DODD?

both of these (ahem) gentlemen the screeched and squealed the loudest in phony outrage over the bonuses-both of these (ahem) gentlemen were primarily responsible for making sure these bonuses would be paid, and in the case of obama, even after the harassment and death threats were in full swing and were front-page news in every major paper, famously WELCOMED the public outrage, even encouraged it-an unconscionable act of moral cowardice and crass political pandering

don't fall for the crafted narrative offered up by the idjits in washington who are trying to divert your attention from their own complicity, and use $165 million in bonuses to distract you from the $170 BILLION of your money that was given to AIG
 
I agree with him 100%. He personally received no money from the Government. Why should he personally be demonized for receiving a bonus that the company not only agreed to, but was contractually obligated to pay him.
