Journeys to court 'unfair' on inmates.
Apparently prisoners could be let off going to court because prison vans are "too uncomfortable". They are complaining that they can't smoke or read magazines on way to court. Inspectors say more inmates should be allowed to use video links instead of appearing in person.

How many workers would just love to do this instead of travelling on packed buses, trains or subways?
Frankie: you sound as if you feel sorry for prisoners who are banged up and locked up at 7pm. If they didn't commit a crime they wouldn't be in prison

When I first read this I thought that we couldn't get any dafter.
But then - many years ago I used to work with young offenders. They would eagerly look forward to their day in court just to relieve the boredom of life in custody.
I wonder if the real message is a cost cutting exercise for the prison staff.
 
It's not so much the inmates complaining about the uncomfortable prison vans as the authorities making up this excuse to cut costs and save money. Yeah, okay, so let prisoners on remand do their case via a video link. This saves the bother of going to court and since they are gonna be found guilty anyway, why bother? They're already in prison and it's a simple matter of passing a sentence and then having them don a bright orange uniform and have a ball and chain fitted etc. No TV after 7pm and bed by 7.30pm - banged up etc. . . .

With the Internet, there are already many thousands of workers working from home.

According to research by the TUC nearly 3.5 million people already work from home in the UK - 12.2 per cent or one-in-eight of the population.
 
Poor prisoners, they really are so hard done by!

If I got the chance they wouldn't have bloody cigarettes or magazines or tv or videos and games etc. And yes, it would be bread and water or at least a very basic balanced diet.

If they don't like the way they are treated in prison, then they shouldn't commit any acts that might send them to prison. Simple really.
 
The world has gone to hell in a hand basket. Is anyone considering how UNFAIR these criminals were to inflict their crimes upon innocent victims. My heart bleeds for them that they cannot smoke or read magazines. These days the damn criminals have more rights than the victims. I am sick of it.

Here in the States a few years back some half wit criminal was suing the prison system because he did not get the type of salad dressing he liked. The attorneys are paid for by the state which in turn means the public paid for them. What happen to the good old days of bread and water, no tv, magazines, NOTHING. If we went back to those days maybe we would have less crime. Right now prison is like a bloody holiday camp.
