Me and a buddy are planning on creating a PHP framework, because we are unsatisfied with the current selections. Our primary focus will be on enabling AJAX, and refining the plugin process.
To help with the process (we're still in the brainstorming phase, with some initial code scratched out), I'm asking you: What features are absolutely essential to you in a PHP framework? What would you like to see in popular options like Drupal, or CakePHP, but aren't there?
