What do you do, when you're not doing "photography"?

Carpenter by trade, fiddler in photography-music-sculpture-and other fine arts when I can. Love motorcycles, dirt and street.

My passion for photography comes a lot from my mother, a person that wanted to be a photographer but ended up raising children instead. (thence I have no children, thank you very much).

I'm an electronics technician, I work for a satellite communications company, testing and developing software for antennas that communicate between satellites and an intermediary. I troubleshoot them when they don't work, then I fix them. It's probably the only thing I do exceptionally well.

I got into photography because I am creative, but lack the ability to paint or draw. I found that I liked the technical aspect of how photography works, and began to appreciate the aesthetic qualities photography can possess when compared to other forms of art. I find that it diverts my otherwise very focused mind into a state that allows me to use more than just my technical skill.

So what do you do, and how does it relate to your passion for photography?

I am unemployed right now but I hike, enjoy large format landscape photography and silversmithing when I can.

Most of my time is spent filling out applications online trying to find work.

I'm still in high school , so i don't really have a job. Though i also sometimes paint and I like psychology right now though i don't really know how that relates to photography .

I work a mundane job at a pharmacy retail chain because photography can't pay tuition, so there's that. In my spare time I paint, draw and read.

I feel that painting really helps me to understand color and the power of light and dark. Painting really has a big influence on my photography and I am always thinking about how I can turn a photo into a digital painting (which honestly, sometimes doesn't help, especially when I am doing senior, bridal, wedding, engagement stuff... most clients want generic and I end up giving them something full of texture and color and it takes away from them... oops, I'm working on it).

I also enjoy playing tennis, it doesn't really help me with photography, but it has helped me cut 15 lbs! :-)

I work at the community college where I take classes, other than that, I'm a newlywed, so I spend a lot time with my husband. We take walks and photograph things together. And a lot of my friends have seen my portrait and wedding stuff and want me to do their weddings, so I'm busy helping them lately.

And to get away from the world, I read books, whatever appeals to me. My fave is CS Lewis, his Mere Christianity and Screwtape Letters give me a ton of food for thought.

I'm starting college in August, and I'm a Media Arts major, so that'll relate to photography in obvious ways. Other than that, I'll be working some minimum-wage job that I'll probably hate (that or a work study, or both if I've got the time)... to be able to pay for said college education. =)

Other than that, I love reading and finding new music to listen to. Biology really interests me, too [[ I think this is at least partly because of the teacher I had for the past few years - definitely one of my favorite people on Earth =) ]], and I like to just be outside - I live by some woods, so I go for a lot of walks there. I do other kinds of art, too - drawing and painting mostly.
