hi,I had few surgeries already, lucky was all done with laproscope,my question, while that iv in i tend to pee,i mean every 10 minutes.more so after its out, since I'm prone to urinary infections.Just trying to figure afyer this big surgery,i know you can't get out bed quick enough to go.Any suggestions?I thought if home maybe use pull ups or something so won't need to get up as much

This is a problem for me as well. I am constantly in the restroom. You can ask for a beRABide commode, bedpan, or urnial (sorry don't know if you are female or male) so that you don't have to go as far to the restroom. This will help alot.

I (a male) used a urinal bottle for the first 3 weeks or so after my fusion. It was a LOT easier than having to get up, struggle down the hall, and deal with sitting and getting up from the toilet, which was the hardest part. Of course, defacating was a different story... speaking of which, it's a good thing to take a stool softener if you're on heavy narcotics like morphine, and also good to have some milk of magnesia to get things moving on occasion.

Take Care,
David

Well lucky you! I was up and down this hallway with my walker so much I made tracks in the carpet. I always thought guys had it made with the whole urinal bottle thing.( just teasing you a little) I usually get a uti after the catheter too, but they pump so many antibiotics thru you that I think they get everything nipped in the bud. The nurses said that I was on 3 different antibiotics in my I.V. so thankfully no infection. Maybe when you get home and while in the hospital ask for cranberry juice and that can help to. It is supposed to raise the acidity in urine. As soon as I have the first twinge I get out the cranberry juice and it almost always works. Good Luck with everything, Dee

I agree with everyone on this topic...I also have a little advice. I have terrible bladder/kidney trouble and take cranberry fruit with vitamin C on daily basis (I take the gel caps). It seems to be taking care of my urinary tract infections. It also helps "boost" up the immune system. I hope you soon find relief!

Wow!you guys are great and so much fun.i'm a girl, old bat at 53.i do have the girl urinal.Forgot about that.only thing how to use it if in hospital, can't bend or move about that easily.Guess I won't be getting my back done as of now,I got few other health issues to work out, blood work, tests.and good ole Workers Comp.
