What do YOU do after you get an epidural?

How do you guys act after you get an epidural? Do you take it easy and if so for how long?
Also, do you get them on both sides or usual one side?
 
A wonderful chiropractor that I know well told me that the doctor will tell you it's OK to go about your business after resting a short while but that to get the most out of the shot you should go home, lie down and stay put for 24 hours, longer if possible. She said that the medicine is not injected into a muscle, or a particular sac or anything. Rather it goes into a generalized area and "bathes" the affected joint, disc or whatever, so there is nothing to contain the medicine. If you are up on your feet, walking around, etc. the medicine gets dissipated into the rest of your body much faster...and therefore it does less good than if it can stay around the specific area. Does that make sense?
 
My doctor recommended that I go home, ice no heat, and relax for 72 hours or more and then once I was starting to feel a little better to begin walking in small amounts.
 
hi after making the mistake of getting epidural and returning immediately to work after 4 hours iam paying greatly for stupidity,definately ice the area and dont lift anything,i dont know why they say rest for 4 hours,but ice can be your bestfriend.good luck. marywoo
 
I Hope I didnt screw it up. I iced all day, but I did make dinner that night and the night after. And went out to grocery shop the day after, too. Now my back hurts. oy
 
You didn't hurt anything. Just to be on the safe side, with the next injection try to have all that done ahead of time so you can lie around like a Princess for 2 or 3 days, watch TV and ice!!
 
When I had my one done as soon as I got off the table my legs went out from under me and I couldn't walk. They kept me there until they felt I was better but then when I tried to stand up again the same thing happened. They told me to go home and stay down for 3 days and have someone with me when I went to get up. It actually got better after 48 hours but I didn't do anything for the 3 days.

Hi, I take it easy after I get one. The last few times I got them, though, I actually felt discomfort when the needle went in (but I wonder if it had anything to do with scar tissue). So for the 2 days after the shot, I had quite some uncomfortableness while sitting and laying down. I did ice the area, as well. I was always instructed not to drive for at least 24 hours after (b/c of the other meRAB that get injected)....but I will admit I've not followed that rule every time. But usually my instructions are take it easy 24-48 hrs. afterwarRAB...no bending, twisting, etc.

Before I had surgery, If I remeraber correctly, I think mine were always given transforamilly on the left side. But after surgery, i've been getting them caudallly.
