What do you call the handle on the inside roof of a car?

It's the handle that people hold on to when they take sharp turns.

I know what my friends and I call it (I can't say it on here), but I'm looking for the correct term. As a side note, what's that handle actually for?
Pedro Bear, that's what my friends and I call it too, but I'm wondering about the real name for that thing.
