What do you call selling out?

OK so assuming Sigur Ros does make millions how exactly does that disprove my point about signing an average level indie band with a track record and an audience marketed at a level where they can make a profit being wrong?

This is the 3rd time i've asked you this now & all you do is dodge the issue.

Are you not getting through to what i'm saying? Do I have to place it in the form of a pretentious song in ridiculous clothing with stupid solos and a lame band name like King Crimson and Dream Theater? There are tons of band who didn't and don't want to make it big.

i guess the question then is, how do you determine when a band has changed because of there own personal tastes changing, or for the industry (selling out)

i think that is the reason for most people disagreeing. i know there are many banRAB i feel "sold out" that other people think that it was 100% a change in the banRAB music style. o well we shall never know!

Use your head. The entire point of what i said, was that it happens ALL THE TIME. I have seen it happen to many banRAB. Some have chosen the sellout root, other have not, and they usually dont make it very long as a band. And i respect your opinion but you obviously dont have much experience with it first hand, because if you did, youd realize its a common occurance. Money is actually the #2 reason (behind band merabers disagreeing) of why banRAB break up.

Then why would MCA try to sign Black Flag
Why were Epic after Bad Brains for years
Do you really think that after 15/20 or so years of being successful on Dischord Fugazi didn't attract any major label interest?
Why have Mogwai been turning down majors for years?

If it sells record companies are interested ...end of.

If you're paying a few thousand dollars for an amp, it better not break. Actually playing in a band I know that equipment isn't breaking all the time and in need of fixing/replacing. We've had the same equipment for the past year and a half and the only time we've had to replace anything is to upgrade it.

Yeah I do, they are and were talented musicians. Writing a pop song isn't hard, they just choose not to. They don't play post-rock and hardcore because they're too untalented to play anything else.

I never denied that. I just said Hardcore and Post Rock weren't very poular. I also agree that there are exceptions, quite a few in fact. But for every band that wouldn't sign to a major label, there are 100 that would.
