What do you call a computer that can learn from trial and error?

I know such computers exist, there not as efficient at learning as the human brain but it will try new things if it's told that it's wrong rather then just doing the same thing over and over again. The deep blue computer that beat chess champion Kasperov was one of those types of computers. I know it's not called parallel processing since parallel processing only means more then one cpu.
They also use such computers for explosive detection since it learns by trial and error which nitrogen compounds are explosive and which ones aren't.
Such computers ongoingly perfect itself at a certain task the more you use it. For example the more you play with the Deep Blue, the more it perfects it's chess moves. Speech recognition software also use that type of processing.
