What do you believe is the greatest animated show of all time?

The first eight seasons of The Simpsons, full stop. The best comedy of all time.

My runner up's would be Futurama (which has nearly all the qualities that The Simpsons does), Ren and Stimpy (for it's animation and unique atmosphere), The Powerpuff Girls (for it's artwork and humor), Dragon Ball Z (for it's masterfully written and directed action sequences) and One Piece (for the same reason as Dragon Ball Z, and also for it's amazing storylines).

Animated *show* seems to ignore theatrical animation, which should be as important as television animation... if counting theatrical, my choice would be Looney Tunes.

Just television, probably a tie between "The Simpsons" (points off for staying on well past its expiration date, but seasons 1-6 would were great) and "Rocky & Bullwinkle" for me (the 90s Warner Bros. shows and the Flintstones as close runners-up)...

For me it would probably be the original TMNT, not because of the story of the animation (which I loved) or anything but because it was so successfull and spawned everything from toys, movies, clothing, video games, comics, food, and other novelties. Plus it was so popular that it spawned a 2nd series that did very well for itself and it's cemented it's legacy in animation history as one of the most recognizable and successful franchises in the history of the industry. At the end of the day it's hard to say that any show in animation history had the selling power of the original TMNT, the franchise has something to it that will probably continue on long after we are all gone and because of that I would say that it's the best and most important animated series of all time.
