What do US Marines in reserves learn after boot camp?

Let's say that in my normal civilian life I want to major in Journalism at school. If I joined the Marine Reserves and my MOS was Public Affairs, would this help me in the long run? Being a reserve, when would I learn and study Public Affairs with the marines? By the way sorry if the question doesn't make sense.
 
no it probably wouldn't help you much at all in the reserves.

if you did active duty you would get some hands on experience and gain the benefits of the new gi bill (free college) but military public affairs is not the same as classic journalism
