I'm going to keep about 3 minnows in a 2.5 gallon tank and need to know if river minnows need a heater. Also what do they eat, and what type of decor. do they like. Do they need live plants or can I just use fake ones? If I use live plants what are the best type of plants for a small tank. Also what is the best 2.5 gallon tank it needs to have a light though cuz I don't want a fish bowl.
Also I'm going to have a sucky fish in the tank to help with cleaning the tank.

You do not need a light, lights make the algae grow really fast, and in small tanks it can be hard to keep at bay. All you need is a small filter, decor and a cycled tank.
Any flake food is fine for them.

A 2.5 gallon is useless, unless used as an isolation tank.

If you want to keep minnows I would suggest white clouds and at least a ten gallon aquarium to accommodate a school (6+).
