What do I do about my cat's Urinary Tact Infection that wont go away?

I guess I will start from the beginning.
We got our male cat from the humane society last May. He was about 2 years old.
In December he was peeing all over. He ended up having a UTI. I was relieved. The antibiotics cleared it up. Then about a month ago he starts peeing again. Another UTI. This time the antibiotics don't clear it up. I am not a fan of antibiotics in the first place. I believe they are making his immune system weaker and that is why the UTI came back right after the antibiotcs were done. So, I order him UT Strength STAT by Vetri-Science Laboratories. It contains herbs to help balance the PH level in the UT and it also contains acidophilus. He has been taking it twice a day for about a week and no improvement. The vet wont give me any help over the phone. They are just making me come to a follow up appt. I don't want more antibiotics. Is there anything else I can do? Could this be more then an infection??

Sometimes one round of antibiotics doesn't "do the trick"......and you need another round, OR stronger antibiotics. Since he got another UTI so quickly, I suspect that the first one wasn't COMPLETELY cleared up. Depriving him of antibiotics is NOT the way to get this healed.

I'm not familiar with the "supplementf" you're using, but in my opinion, I think you should get the infection COMPLETELY cleared up by giving him the anitbiotics for at least 2 weeks straight. Then, maybe this UT - STAT will help him STAY clean. The infection needs to BE CLEARED UP, in order for the PH value of the urine to be controlled.........

He could also have crystals in his urine, or bladder stones, and this could be the problem instead of an infection. Please take him back to the vet ( or a different vet, if you aren't happy with this one ) and get him some help ASAP. After the problem is taken care of......maybe the new herbal supplement will help keep him from getting it back again. Some cats, males in particular, get UTIs on a fairly regular basis, because their urethra is so short, and since he came from the humane society, you don't know his genealogical history. His "family" may have a history of bladder/kidney problems......and he may be "prone" to infections.

So...my advice......get more antibiotics and be sure he's completely cured......they won't compromise his immune system!! If your child had an ( ear, throat, or bladder ) infection that wouldn't go away, wouldn't you want to give him antibiotics to clear it up? Same thing with animals.......sometimes they NEED antibiotics........

Hope this helps, and your baby feels better soon...........Good luck.
