The question has been asked many times about western culture affecting India. And the usual things come up: immorality etc. as not being a good influence... but technology, medical etc. as being (in most cases) good influence. Clothing... for the most part western dress seems to be becoming more popular in India (is that good or bad?)
What about the other way around? I am Canadian, and caucasian... but I love Indian culture, food, and clothing. Most of my closet consists of tunic type tops etc all made in India. What do people of East Indian descent think when they pass someone here in the West wearing clothes from or inspired by India? I also feel more in tune to spirituality from the East, and I practice Yoga (not just for the physical exercises but also spiritual). What do people of East Indian descent think of this?
I ask because until recently I never gave any thought to the term 'culture appropriation' and I wouldn't want to offend anyone at all. And I am not claiming their traditions etc as my own. I make the origins of my clothing, spirituality etc. well known to those I know. But I just seem to really fit more with their culture than my own... which being Canadian I guess ours is just a smorgasbord of mixed cultures anyway. (If I look back only a few generations, I actually have Scottish, English, Aboriginal, Welsh, and I think a bit of Greek thrown in)
pickdon and meemeek: Please be more specific?
