so i always see these ads for "ford 9 inch rear ends" what does that mean? and what is benefit for a car?

9 inch ford rear ends are highly sought after by drag racers, they are super tough and easy to swap gears in and out of. other people could tell you better but if you are building a drag car or similar a 9 inch rear end is often a good choice. a 8.8 rear end is good too though i hear.

The term "Ford 9 inch" refers to the size of the worm gear inside. The Ford 9 inch is the desired rear end for hot rods because its very very tough and able to handle major amounts of power without spitting out parts on the ground. It is also highly adaptable with every gear ratio combination possible for it.(to custom design a ratio for your specific application)
