what distortion pedal should i buy?

i am new to electric guitars,and my guitar sound is rubbish i want the rock sound,so i need distortion pedal...the question is?,what distortion pedal could anyone suggest for me to buy and i'm a student so my budget is like £20.
 
just throwing a bunch of pedals on your guitar wont make you better, maybe cover up a few mistakes, but the best way to improve sound is to get good. that being said, if you don't have much money, you could get an older used mutieffects pedal. i got an RP2000 for 75 american dollars, dunno what that is in pounds, but you could probally look online and find some for around 100 us dollars. it has everything pretty much, pickup simulator (single coil to humbucker and vice versa) compresser, wahwah, amp modeling, eq, reverb, delay, and a bunch of different effects.
 
20 isnt much
just by a Wah i think its $15

but if only you had more money, but then it also depends on what type of music u want to play
for just general it the BOSS DS-1 ($100)is good, but if ur tryin to play metal then u might wanna get the BOSS MT-2 ($200) thats the one i have and it works fine

but then again u cant really pick and choose with $20
