I'm having a hard time decided after reading many forums. i'm a beginner and am interested in most mx track and sand dune riding, plan to eventually be doing mild jumps on this first bike. im 5'11 220 lbs and have been looking at 250f models, im not positive this will be enough power and want some advice. i like the idea of four stroke for longer lasting and less maintenance but have a feeling ill need to go 250 two stroke without killing myself with a heavy 450, so what do you guys think, 250f enough or what should i get?

Also im thinking i want to go kx, yz, or wr models, any input on that?

As a beginer a four stroke is definatly the better option 250f is going to be a good learner bike but it will be just that a learner bike if your like the majority of people out there u don't have an unlimited budget to buy bikes with and don't want to have to buy another bike in a year so here's the advice I have for that although there not as easy to learn on a 125 2 stroke will have more than enough power to let u play when u get better but also dosnt have the monster tourqe a 4 stroke does so I won't be as easy to turn the bike over on yourself there light so they are great for jumping and you can pick them up for less money than about anything else but the choice is yours the best thing you can do is to ride several diffrent bikes and see what fits you, your riding style and your budget good luck deciding and happy riding

For someone who is a beginner you would have plenty of power on any 250f.
You would not be able to use all the power that one has to offer until you have a lot of seat time on the bike.
Try to buy as new as you can and again any of the known brands would be fine and your main objective as a beginner should be to get the best price you can and brand really does not matter at this stage.

The four stroke is a much better option bike for any beginner.

I for one refuse to switch to four bangers. But i have ridden a YZF 450 and 250. They both are smooth riding bikes, the 250 didn't have near the power I require, I even used everything a 450 has to offer and wanted more power. I like 500 two strokes, Cr250's are great too. I would recommend a 450 for you, because sooner ot later you are going to want to upgrade anyways. The bikes are almost the same except for the motor of course. Two strokes vibrate, really hard on the body, smell of mixed fuel burning, loud, and your always on the clutch. But I love that! I think i'm the only person left that thinks that.
