What did you think of Moulin Rouge?

Great for the first 1/2 of the film until they do the Like a Virgin number. After that it gets a bit boring.
And like Hamlet, she taks way too long to die (a darn, I've given the end away).
Looks pretty, sounRAB OK, good fun, but ultimately a bit lacking in depth.
7/10

I loved this film guys.

I give it full 10 outta 10.

I loved the 'colourfullness' of it all - costumes, sets, etc...........really well done!

Have this movie on DVD and my fav is the Come What May dance remix video...........

its well put together and I can see me dancing on ice to it with a tall dark hanRABome 'tophat and tail' kinda guy...

:D

I didn't fancy seeing it at the cinema when I saw the trailer. Then I was persuded to rent it on DVD, and I thought it was excellent.

Baz Luhrmann has a brilliant imagination.

I think the main reason why some people didn't like it is because its a fast pacing musical and is surreal in parts.

But the music totally brings the movie life, Fat Boy Slim did a brilliant job mixing it all in and there's some excellent cover versions of songs too.

It is a "must see" movie. :D

I watched the start of it the other night on one of the movie channels, and I didn't think much of it. The way that the people seemed to be cardboard-cut-outs stuck on a background type of this looked damn awful, I hope that didn't continue right throughout!

It just had a lok about it which said 'crap', and I usually aviod films like that, and when I eventually do watch them, I was right they were crap. I'll probably not watch this then.

I was told though by the guy who works in the local vid shop that when he went to see it, almost half of the audience walked out at different stages within the first hour of the film calling it shite... Make of that what you will...

Padzter :D

My girlfriend got it on DVD - I ended up going online half way through and although she watched til the end she thought it was shite too. I don't mind musicals but I couldn't cope with the modern songs in that setting - then again I tend to be very critical about historical accuracy, just ask my girlfriend!

Up their with The English Patient for me!

Saw it on a flight to the US and didn't think much of it. In fact I think I fell asleep a couple of times. Then watched it on the flight back and really liked it. Rushed to go see it in a real cinema rather on the back of the chair in front. Fantastic. Superb visuals and awesome music. Saw it about 3 times again in the cinema dragging other people with me each time.

Most people don't get the film (many of those I dragged along included!) which is fine - I can see how it could rub some people the wrong way. On the DVD commentary the director explains how and why the 20th century songs are used which, once you realise, makes it even better.

Each to their own I s'pose :)

It's one of my favorite movies. I wish I had seen it at the theater. I was warned by a friend that it was terrible (she walked out during the first 30 minutes). Finally saw it on video and I loved it instantly! And it doesn't hurt that Ewan McGregor is gorgeous. :D

We bought it on DVD the instant that it came out, as we didn't get the chance to see it at the cinema (even though the missus wanted to). I think that out of all our DVRAB this one is definately the most watched. I think the missus has watched it about a dozen times now, together with every time it comes up on Sky Premier.

I saw this and thought it was totally amazing brilliant film.

I must confess i cried buckets teh sap i am, but music moves me like that. It was truly hightened cinema both visually and musically - I simply adore it and now have it on DVD as one of my all time favourites.

I have mixed feelings about it. I didnt like the film as such but what I did appreciate the way it was done. I loved the way the songs were used in the film.
