What did you think of Moulin Rouge?

The Nobodies

Got this on dvd a few weeks ago, just watched it this weekend. At first i thought it was crap and a bit bonkers, put persevered and it was actually quite funny and enjoyable.

Its such a weird film, i was just wondering what other people made of it?

i loved it and i thought that the DVD was great too! there was sooo much extra footage.

i thort the music was great, even though Come What May seemed to be sung once too often!!

The guy I borrowed it from didn't like it, though his wife loved it.

I didn't watch it, the missus gave up after 20 mins and daughter fell asleep after 30 mins.

Make of that what you will. :D

Wasn't that impressed, seemed like one long pop music video to me.

Also, there wasn't enough scenes of the actual Moulin Rouge, only at the beginning and end. Could of done with a good choreographed set-piece in the middle.

Worth it for the Lady Marmalade video clips though :D

I havent actually seen the film but ive just noticed sumthing. In the trailers there is a funny plump man that looks like the ringleader of the gang. Does ne1 else think he looks like colonel sanders from kfc. Or am i seeing things. Believe me i am normal!!!!

Technically, it's an amazing achievement and a staggering piece of film-making but there's no story to speak of and it is just like one great big pop video.

It's the kind of thing that should be on in the background of fashionable bars where you can admire the visuals without being forced to try and follow a plot.

Richard.

I couldn't for the life of me figure it out, and that made me somewhat uneasy.

It was all just a "bunch of stuff", and lots of very weird things like the fact it's supposed to be Paris in 1900, and they're singing all of these 1980s hits ??

I gave up on it before the end, there didn't seem any point in carrying on.

Very constructive.....

Thought it was very good myself - visually stunning, highly original and thoroughly entertaining. Thought the out of place soundtrack was great esp *Smells Like Teen Spirit*, *Like a Virgin* and the elephant love song with *Heroes*.

Maybe not to everyones taste, but as something that bit different thought it was great.

thought it was excellent except the ending could have been better. otherwise it really was amazing. i think only baz luhrman could make sumthing like that.

Rubbish, bought it for my partner, watched it that evening and sold it the next day. Strictly Ballroom was good (little money), Romeo & Juliet was watchable (money) but MR (huge amouts of money) lost its way within the first minute.

It takes the old story of boy meets ungetable girl and turns it into tone deaf boy meets lead singer of cats chorus, I was waiting for them to break into "I've got a lovely bunch of coconuts" by the end.

I have always prided myself on never giving up on a film until the end, some have tested this stance but to get to the end of this film I had to be tied to my chair.

i went to see it @ the cinema, i did think it was ok but it didn't meet my expectations. i like musicals, but i think they could have picked better ppl to play the parts (even though i thought the ppl in it were ace :D) . i didn't really understand it the whole way through but i did get the kinda story line it was following.

I am going to rent and watch it again as i did enjoy it just not as much as i thought i would :) . I wouldnt' buy it tho, i would much rather have the soundtrack!

Saw it for the first time last night. Have avoided much of the hype.

Imho it started really well with a massive set piece and gradually went downhill from there. Individually lots of things were good. McGregor & Kidman's voices were surprisingly good. Marvelled at the visual/choreographic feast. Laughed at some of the musical juxtapositions, song titles in the dialogue etc. Cringed at Jim Broadbent's 'tache. But still I found myself losing interest after about 90 minutes. I would still watch it again because everything moves so quickly & I will have missed much.

6.5/10

:)

Have to confess I bought the DVD to this around a month ago....... and despite the Easter hols and everything I *still* haven't got round to watching it yet!
