What did you spend/are planning on spending on photography?

I'd like to have 5-6 hours of photography during my ceremony and reception, but am not necessarily interested in the extremely pricey, hard cover books made for parents, etc.

It seems most place (in the Massachusetts area) are around $1500-1700 for the basic 5-6 hours.

What did you spend or are you going to spend? Any suggestions to cut that cost a bit?

**I want professionals, not photo students or anything like that. Although I can see where that's a good idea, I really want to make sure I'm getting the best quality/expertise.

Thats the average price to pay.I dont think you can find anything cheaper around that area. We're having a friend take ours and the weddings that she has done are just as good as a pros.

That sounds decent. Mine is 1250 and I get the cd, plus 250 worth of her print credits, it is for 6 hours.

You can call around your local photography places ask to speak to the photographers and ask if they do free-lance..

I am getting mine done by a professional that used to be a photographer from a really pricey but great photography place, he's trying to start up his own business and is cutting me a great dealer...

But mostly with photography especially at weddings, you get what you paid for if you go.

I have a small budget for my wedding in general so trying to find a photographer for under my $1300 budget that included an album for myself was difficult. I am in the Chicago area and was finding most places to be at least $1800 for a package with an album. I went to a bridal expo and actually found a photographer that does beautiful work and they were giving away a $300 coupon for stopping by their booth! Thanks to the coupon I am able to get the photographer for 8 hours at up to 3 locations plus a 30 page album and proofs for $1200. Do a lot of looking around, go to bridal expos and also use other photographers packages to your advantage when talking about what you can get included in your package. I was able to get photo place cards included in the package because I had another photographer that offered it in their $995 package. I would never have used the photographer with the $995 package because I didn't like ANY of the work they had done, but they helped me in the long run! Good Luck!

Good call wanting a pro! The going rate where I am is 2500, and I spent right about that- 2300. This price included coverage for the entire day- 1 photographer and an assistant (about 8 hours) and I got an album with proofs. This did not include any prints.

I actually found pros that are just starting out. So kind of between student and pro. I went on Craigslist and found them. They want to build up their portfolios and they were offering as many hours as I wanted, 50 5x7 prints and a high quality cd of every single image they took. All this for $500! They are actually out of Foxboro Mass I think... And they are willing to travel almost 4 hours to shoot my wedding in VT! I will get you the e-mail if you want... I don't know if they are still offering it that cheap, but I'm sure they are cheaper than the rest.
