What diameter handlebars does a 1997 Suzuki marauder 800 use?

You will need to find some good cheap parts for it then. JC Whitney catalog has some stuff for you. It looks like you have 7/8 inch bars on it now, and the link has a variety to choose from for $20 or less. Not too shabby on price.
 
The general rules about handle bars is that Harleys and some Jap cruisers use 1" bars

most Jap bikes and many English use 7/8" bars (note 7/8" and not metric bars that are 22mm)

Metric bars are 22mm and are used on European bikes
 
JC Whitney ripped me off, after I PAID for my order and paying a high shipping and handling charge, they sent me a letter telling me that item is no longer in stock with a check MINUS THE SHIPPING AND HANDLING CHARGE!
I was sooo mad!
I called them up and asked them "HOW CAN YOU CHARGE ME A SHIPPING AND HANDLING CHARGE WHEN NO PART WAS SHIPPED?
They said Company Policy!
I told them, OK you ripped me off, so I am going to bad mouth you every chance I get and tell EVERYBODY how you ripped me off!
