movie manuscript? I have several writing ideas but never written anything other than grant proposals. When you start writing, do you go with facts or situations then work out with details? Any good writing book suggestions?
Do you have suggestions for books I could read in this regard? In addition, could you tell me if one starts writing with situations or facts then expands on them? Does one start in the beginnning, or just start anywhere and then work out?
 
You just know.
When you get the idea, do you picture someone reading it... there face lighting up as they go along, or do you picture someone watching it?

Then you sort out the plot and write it as you see fit... it's your choice, you just have to figure out what you want.
 
Generally a lot of research is done by writers before writing a piece. A plot outline is made detailing the major events of their story idea from the beginning to the end, they write around these ideas/events. This isn't true of all writers - some simply make it up as they go.

It depends on what you're interested in, books, theatre, or movies. If you want to write a book and feel you have enough content to write 200+ pages, write a novel. A little less? That's a novella. Or perhaps you have a plot outline with only a couple of major events centered around one idea or theme - short story.

Writing for theatre or the big screen is kind of a different path as you obviously have to take in to account the fact that it's real and not simply words on a page. Usually the same process is followed though.
