What curriculum requirements do you know of for teaching high school in English...

...and History? I would like to teach high school but I'm having a hard time choosing which subject. Restriction on what you can and can't teach is a big turn off for me. I know it varies from state to state, so please verify which state you are giving information on if it isn't a nationalized policy. Thank you!

Well I work in Florida. Our curriculum is dominated towards teaching for the Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test also known as the FCAT test. History isn't even on it, it is math, science, reading, and an essay.

Now if you want my opinion on what would be easier to get hired as it will definately be an English teacher. English is a hard pressed field and most districts will give you a bonus for teaching hard pressed fields (Math, Science, English). History teachers are a dime-a-dozen, most coaches are History teachers because it is easier to get certified in History than English.
