What cultures still believe in arranged marriages? Aren't you missing out on one...

...of the greatest joys of life? I know of several people from India (living in the US) with arranged marriages. Falling in love with the right person is one of the greatest joys of life. Aren't these people being robbed of that? Is the divorce rate high? How about extra-marital affairs?

I don't think you understand how most arranged marriages work. They're really just like your parents setting up blind dates for you, until you pick one you like. A lot of times busy young professionals in India (or other Asian countries) will choose to have their parents do this, because they don't have time to date around. They seem to work out quite often, since they're not forced into anything, as you appear to think.

I mean, I'd never do this, and my mom would think it was flipping hilarious if I asked her to, considering the type of guy I like isn't one even a mom as cool as mine would pick out for their daughter... but a few of my cousins have gotten business done that way.

I'm totally convinced that the Almighty arranged my marriage, and after 34 years with the same woman that belief is stronger than ever. And all I can say is WOW!

My parents could never have made such a perfect match for me.
