I have tingling nurabness in my right leg, thigh to calf it feels so strange is at times is worse than others. I have back problems and had a heart cath done last week, either of those causing this?. it feels like prickling tingling sensations thanks

It could be a "pinched" nerve that could be caused by a bulging or herniated disc. For whatever reason, your sciatic nerve is being compressed and this results in feelings of pins and needles, prickling, and/or nurabness. When you change position it opens up space and the nerve can move again so the funny feelings go away.

To give you an example, I just had surgery two weeks ago for this condition. I had stenosis in my lower lurabar back (L4-5) which resulted in incredible pain when walking or especially, standing. After about 2 minutes, my right leg would go nurab from my hip all the way down to my toes. But if I sat down, the pain would immediately go away. I had no difficulty sleeping. But if I walked to the mailbox, I was ready to burst into tears!!

If you search for dermatome chart you will see that there is a direct correlation between a particular vertebra and what the nerves control. L4-L5 generally controls the nerve that runs down the outside of the thigh, calf and outer side of the foot. If the nurabness is on the top-side of your inner thigh, this would be the L2-L3 vertebrae. The dermatome chart will give you this information for your whole body.

If the problem persists, you will want to get an MRI to figure out what is causing the problem. It could be something temporary, maybe from laying in an unusual position when you had your heart procedure. You might want to ask your doc about that posibility!!

Did the symptoms start after the cath? Did they go in thru the groin -- on the same side as your symptoms? If the answer to these questions is yes then maybe the cath is causing the symptoms. The femoral nerve is right next to the artery and vein. There is often a bit of local swelling and blood leakage at the site which goes away, but can cause some sensations like you describe. Of course, if the answers to my questions are no then ignore this whole thing -- but Good Luck...

Actually I have had 2 MrI's done in the past 8 weeks, and there were tons of findings in the L4-L8 I saw a neuro but he says its artistis and I am taking physical therapy(well until the cath last Friday and , yes its the same leg and this has gotten worse since Sunday, it is the inside of my thigh mid ways to the top of the calf and exp, in the back of the knee and while sitting, so I wonder if it is all my back problems or could something have went wrong with the cath, in which I am worried about all the heart things too, as I had a normal heart cath, but 4 abnormal EKG's and a abnormal stress test and they done a Echo today I guess it will be OK since the Cath was thou. But I was wondering what this nurabness, and tingling was in my right leg. thanks for the input, if you have any more answers please advise. Thanks, Karen:)

Gal, I would contact the doctor that did the cath and run it past him to make sure it had nothing to do with the cath.

I must admit it sounRAB like it is coming from your back. L5 is normally responsible for the outerside of your thigh.
