What could save Daybreak?

To improve "Daybreak"?

Ship Adrian & Christine across to Australia for the winter and broadcast from there. Show "Popeye" at 07.25am and maybe some "Batman" episodes.

It worked for TV-AM with Anne Diamond & Nick Owen in the 80s.

If things get desperate they could always bring the rat back.

The regional suggestion mentioned a few posts back isn't such a bad idea - but perhaps in a different format. If there is anything left of the ITV regional network, it would be good to "go nationwide" with say 2 slots in each show for a feature from outside London.

Maybe it would be more realistic to have Kate and Dan take over than glove puppets..as funny as it is to suggest

Can the set really be to blame? maybe it looks too medical

It was doomed from the start, everyone who has ever jumped ship from the BBC to ITV for more money has come a cropper; Morecambe and Wise, The Goodies, Des Lynam but people never learn, not when they've got the

It just feels cold and lifeless. Neither Christine or Adrian are right for this sort of format at all. He is too grumpy and not the sort of personality you want to see first thing while I think many people now view her as a greedy bitch. Her reputation is damaged. If people don't like you they won't watch. Cowell should be advised to keep her away from X Factor because it will end in tears.

Saw a bit this morning. The sports / cheerleaders bit was cringeworthy with a couple of moments of embarrasing silence.

GMTV was on higher ratings than Daybreak, so it has been a disaster as far ITV are concerned.

Daybreak now averages about 500-600K, Gmtv averged about 700-900k and BBC breakfast av 1.5M.

To be honest, nothing can save it. ITV invested a lot of money into flash sets, flash titles, big guests and attracted big adverts. Scratch beneath that flash, you basically have an odd mix of This morning, the one show and gmtv, presented by two average presenters, not really covering the main news, but commenting on the same story every hour and running through the same features. The show neeRAB its own identity and less rigid and repetetive format. If it doesn't find this by or straight after christmas, its finished for good.

Am I surprised it hasn't worked? No. I predicted it would be trashy tv and it is. Christine is just hanging on ITV cos Simon Cowell promised her x factor when dermot becomes American XF host, so I doubt she is too worried.

adrian Chiles is the worst presenter on TV, get rid and it will improve, while we at it, end his contract for football as well, can't stand the man

Judy has largley retired from public life, and im quite sure wants no part of the scheulde you keep as a early moring breakfast TV presenter.

I know Richard still wants to do stuff, but I dont think he wants to do stuff, that badly,

Yes it is a bit too early in the morning for her.

My other suggestion would be to replace Chiles with Stephen Mulhern, he's already contracted to ITV, has proved he's great in the morning, is full of enthusiam and almost impossible to dislike.

They could even put him back together with Holly Willoughby and transfer Bleakley to This Morning. Or alternatively put Mulhern on This Morning and Phillip Schofield on Daybreak with Bleakley.

Plus the set neeRAB to be warmer as already stated.

all those suggestions would make it even worse!!..someone who is impossible to dislike in your eyes is disliked by me as a presenter anyway (I dont know him personally)..and why ruin This Morning!?

If i remember correctly, GMTV struggled when it first started too. People don't like change and they where not happy about GMTV replacing TV AM.

So give it time and I think figures will improve.

I dread to think what Daybreak will be like if/when something serious happens or if someone very important dies....they just wont be able to cope.

How on earth is 'the grinning woman' and 'the dullard' going to give an event the correct air or gravity. Or even the airhead newsreader for that matter.

Hopefully they always have someone on standy !
