What could I do for my law-based essay (UK)?

I have to do a 5000 word essay for school, on a subject of my choice, which I get a qualification out of at the end. I want to do something law-based, seeing as I'd like to study law at university and the essay will be included in part of my university application.

However, I don't study law at school so it can't be anything that requires a strong knowledge of the law. I've already thought of the Shariah Law debate, and after reading a book on paedophiles that kill (the whos, whys and hows), I thought of basing my essay on whether people who are subject to sexual abuse as children are bound to grow up to become a paedophile themselves? However, it's quite a sensitive subject and I'm not sure whether there would be enough information to write a 5000 word essay on that subject. Just as a matter of interest, as an examiner, would you think it odd for a 16 year old to write an essay on a topic of that nature?

Any ideas would be much appreciated, because I'm sure there are plenty of subjects out there that I would be passionate about, but haven't thought of them yet.
