What could have been the impact on the history of Islam, if the 1st and 4th

Caliphs were to switch positions? There is so much divisions between Shias and Sunnnis on this issue of Caliphate that I sometimes wonder if we as Muslims would have been better off by a different order of Caliphate?
diamant 12th acc: wondering is always better than not wondering :)
I am certain God left this one to the Muslims as a test and we messed it up royally .

if imam ali had been the first caliph then maybe more muslims would have been guided today. however, the only way for imam alis teachings to be passed on correctly was for the rest of his progeny to be successors after him. and so therefore, even if you reverse the order (as it is defined by sunnis), the good which imam ali would have tought initially would be erased by the rest of the so called "rightly guided caliphs", and so nothing would change. the only way things can chage is if they all accept that imam ali and his progeny were the rightfull successors.

The question should have been what is the easiest way for a hadith rejecter to make the Sunni’s and Shi’a fight. Good one.

Your certain God left this as a test? You sound like rashad khalifa now. Did you get a revelation from God? Because how else can you be so certain? Or are you just talking out of desire?

May Allah (swt) help you.

this is not the conflict og first or fourth

its the whole concept of Imamat, which is against the concept of caliphate of Islam.

Ali (RA) being the first or fourth does not make big difference what makes the difference is shias beliefs which give their imam the status of higher than prophets, and assign attribute of Allah to their imams.

Calling them for help .

YA ALI . YA HUSSAIN

The Caliphate and its order is a fact. So anyone in touch with reality just needs to accept it and move on. Whatever Alids may say, Imam Ali did extend his assistance to the other Rightly Guided Caliphs, albeit he did not participate in the expansionist wars, for he did not find them to be jihad (wajib).

The division (fitna) was not until Muawiya expolited the confusion after passing of the third Caliph to initiate open mutiny.

But all of these are poitical matters which to a large extent to do with humans of that time. Greater than all of this is the matter of Spiritual Velayah which is through Imam Ali. This is far more important for me rather than getting obsessed with Caliphate. Velayah is bestowed by Allah SWT, and the spirituality transcends sapce and time.
