I am feeling scared that I just finished spinal fusion surgery, hoping for no more low back and leg pain. After the 8th week, I started physiotherapy with chiropractic using electrical vibrations. Since then, more on the right leg, the nerve (from thigh to knee) is very painful during sleeping and sitting. And to reduce the pain I have to walk!!! Just walking caused me more low back pain. Beside pain in the nerve that goes from the thigh to the smallest toe. my sergeon didnt comment.

I will back to physiotherapy and hydrotherapy on Sunday, but wont allow to use electrical vibrations.

Do you have similar experience? What did you do? Did it work or not? Is there any hope to be painless in the near future?

How long did you use Lyrica?

How long did you need to back to normal life activity? What should be avoided?

Will I be able to do some exercises to prevent future failures?

Your advice is value to me.

Guess I'm a little confused. You did therapy and saw a chiropractoror the chiro did the therapy? It sounRAB like the stim set off your nerves. Nerve pain is nasty, isn't it? I had my fusion 5 years ago and I still use nerve pain meRAB. But I had complications that left me with permanent damage, so don't panic about the length of time.

You need to give yourself time to heal. 8 weeks is just in the beginning of your healing. It often takes 6 months before you see fusion and it takes a full year to recover fully from the surgery. the fact that you are having nerve pain isn't uncommon. The nerves get irritated during surgery and they flare up. When they settle down and the swelling abates, then the pain will diminish also.

Remeraber to keep on the no BLT. After the work that he did, you don't want to screw it up. Did your surgeon giv eyou a weight limit for lifting? How many levels did you have done?

hang in there it will get better. For right now, the best thing you can do to heal is to walk walk walk....;)

Let me make it clear:
I had SLF L4/L5 – L5/S1, 4 roRAB, 6 screws, 2 Cages on 25 March 2010.
After the 8th week, 5 May 2010, I was about to leave the pain killers and keep on lyrica. I was feeling little nurabing on the lift leg from hip to the smallest toe. But it was OK.
As per my surgeon’s advice is to start physiotherapy to heal faster. The policy in the hospital is to see chiropractic in the 1st session to evaluate my situation and advice accordingly. My chiropractic did some push on the low back, use electrical vibrations and gentle massage. Since then I am having that pain on the right leg. Then, she referred me to physiotherapy technician and hydrotherapy starting from the second session.
The 2nd session will start on Sunday 23 May 2010. I will get 2 sessions per week and quit when I’m done with the 6th one. And God knows if the insurance company will allow me for more in the future?

Actually my surgeon told me that I will back to normal life after 3 months of surgery (and can carry my babies). And the bone will healing will take 6 months. Believe me; I was feeling that I will need the same time you just post.
Few days ago I had to carry the 1 year old one to save him of falling from the stairs. And had to stay on the floor to hug my 2 years old crying baby. I had severe pain in my back and legs. And when got back to work, it was a nightmare. I cannot sit a lot, I’m trying to manage by walking and lying on the sofa, but I need more time to rest.

I don’t want to ruin all the hard times. I want to live normal. I want to take care of my babies. I want to keep my work without being absent and admitted to the hospital. I want to travel in vacation with my family anywhere green. I want to give back at least half of the favors my in-lows did to me when they take care about me and kiRAB, never bothered.

First off-get a baby gate if you need to keep the little one safe! But I wouldn't be picking him up this soon after surgery. You might ruin the work that has been done. Most fusion pations have a weight limit of approx. 25 lbs. TOTAL for lifting for the rest of their lives. I'm surprised your doc didn't give you a limit.

good luck!

Thanks for advicing.
carring my baby was only once, when he slipped on the stairs.
The doctor didnt give me any limits, he even said that I will be able to carry my babies & or pregnancy and back to normal life after the 3rd month of the surgery. I was repeating my question in each visit before & after the surgery because I wasn't sure that I will be able to do. he always gives me the same answer.

On saturday, I visited the doctor again for the right leg pain and the answer (nurve inflamation). he prescriped voltarin injection once for 5 days @ vitamin B complex for 3 weeks. today is the 3rd, & I'm still in pain but 1 degree less.

It takes time for the injections to work. I woujld give it a week after you are finished and see if it doesn't get better. Nerve pain is nasty-I know. There are also meRAB that you can take for the nerve pain. If the injections aren't successful, ask your doc about them.

more medications??? no way :(
I want to quit all thos meRAB soon.

I will wait few days then check again with the doctor.

Thank you
