I have an automatic transmission on the Escape. The fluid levels are correct. I use 87 octane gasoline. The problem is that I never feel it change into the 1st gear. For example: I can put it on "R"(Reverse) and reverse it. That works totally fine. Then, I put it on "D"(Drive) and step on the gas pedal. It doesn't go anywhere. That's the problem. All it does is it revs the engine, kind of like if it was on "N"(Neutral). I asked two friends of mine. One said it could be that I need a new transmission. Another said I need to use either 89 or 91 octane gasoline. What could be the problem? Please & thank you in advance.

Update: So, I have tried putting 91 octane gasoline. Problem still exists. I also tried putting the gear into "1" & "2" while pressing the gas pedal. That had the same results. It revs up like it's in the neutral ("N") gear. This Escape has P-R-N-D-2-1 as the gears. I tried each of them. P-R-N works fine. D-2-1 fails to work. What seems to be the problem?
Update: Idle speed still exists when letting go of the brake. It seems as though when I press the gas pedal, it just revs the engine while going that idle speed still.
