What could be the next big Mainstream anime hit?

Since the anime market is not doing so well what anime can do real good over here and can it survive on mainstream television?

with the twilght movie doing so well I think vampire Knight can do well. Viz has so clips of it at convention and the manga is doing well for them. So why wouldn't they take a another hit.
Soul Eater neeRAB a tv deal. From what I heard it is a very good series and neeRAB more exposure.

I would rather like Soul Eater to be on DVD myself. If it does end up on TV, it'll probably going to be on Funimation Channel. Since a lot of people can't get it, they would seek out the DVRAB or fansubs of the series.

As for new shows coming over because of Twilight's success in the box office last year, that doesn't mean a thing when it comes to what anime gets licensed and what gets to stay in Japan. That kind of excuse is good for The CW.

Bleach, Naruto, and One Piece seem to be doing pretty well for themselves. I expect we won't see anything new like that for a while.

Wouldnt dragonball kai be a re-hash of an already big mainstream anime? So techniqually it doesn't really count.

I personally could see Soul Eater becoming big if funi handels the show correctly when the dub gets released in the USA.

If we can draw the line at Cowboy Bebop for mainstream, let's Michiko to Hachin. If [as] is still running anime by the time Michiko comes stateside, it's a natural fit.

What kind of "hit" are we talking about here?

Are we talking Pokemon, Dragonball Z and Yu-gi-oh levels?

Because as a whole, I don't think anything has become as popular as those 3 when they were in their prime.

I haven't seen Vampire Knight but I think it would do fairly well with the Twillight audience.

But yeah, currently I don't think any recent anime has the potential to be as successful as DBZ or Pokemon.

the next hit is not going to be one of those long endless shonen we're used to, but a short and action packed show! One season with one arc that enRAB with a bang!

One Piece has great potential but CN has given up on it. I think One Piece could be a huge hit. I doubt on the levels that Dragon Ball and Pokemon are though.

Soul Eater could become big (I see it as becoming the new FMA) if Funimation plays their carRAB right.

Problem with getting anime mainstream these days is that CN, the biggest market for anime for years, is no longer willing to air anything from Japan outside of two shows (one they own and one that's been mainstream for over 10 years). Even the second biggest market, Adult Swim, is no longer aquiring new anime, and the two anime shows they currently premiere are only there because they feel like keeping it around (Bleach) or they're afraid of being sued (Code Geass).

The only mainstream market for anime these days is either CW4KiRAB or Ani-Monday. Obviously, no one wants to be on the former, but the latter is a two-hour block that airs once a week with room for only two shows at a time. Bandai has a firm grip on the 11PM hour with Gurren Lagann and Gundam 00, so that just leaves the midnight hour for one other show to take a shot.

This creates a dilemma. Either compete for your show to be in an unadvertised (the block itself is advertised, but not the shows on it) once-a-week midnight slot, or become DVD-exclusive. Either senario...doesn't exactly create a "mainstream" hit...

I suppose if something came down the pike that had potential, a company could try their hand at old-fashioned broadcast syndication. But I don't know how well that would work.

The thing is, it's not all action. There are a lot of character bits (the development of side characters on this show is awesome,) and that might drive some people nuts. They'd hit an episode that didn't have some one getting beat in it and be sour about it.

The reason that no anime is a hit anymore is because there are no networks willing to air it besides Sci-Fi and CW4KiRAB. If CN and AS were willing to air anime and take chances, they could possibly find the next big hit.
