What colour shall i paint my room?

the carpet in my room is a medium dark red, i cannot change the carpet but i am allowed to paint my room but i don't know what colour would suit it. My room has a big window which takes up the whole wall, i would quite like it to be a light colour!! Please Help
 
Why not white?
white makes a room look bigger, i painted all 4 walls in my room white, and i also have a dark carpet. But then the walls started to feel to boring so i added a decoration i got from a home shop, they are patterned transfers of long winding flowers in black. and it gives the room a modern black and white feel, everyone comments how lovely it looks.
