Choosing proper light for your tank depends on what you want to accomplish overall with the light- like if you want a light that will enhance colors of your fish, to promote growth of live plants, simulate a closer to natural sunlight or all of those things. It can be kinda tricky sometimes. White lights will bring out more of the colors of your fish and won't harm your fish but if you have live plants the wattage of light is important also. The standard bulbs that come in hoods for aquariums usually aren't sufficient for live plants. If you have or plan to get live plants you will want to consider that too. Hope this helps some!
