what color should i paint my walls and ceilings?

My kitchen and my living room are open to each other I am painting both rooms so i need them to transition to each other.I am also planning on selling my house next spring so i think i want to stay with some neutral colors. The kitchen has white cabinets The corrain counter tops are ,a dark grey with white speckles some of the counter tops are mounted onto a glass block foundation.I have stainless steel appliances with a ceramic black and white tiles.and plenty of window light.The living room has hard wood light oak floors..Also open for ideas for window treatment for each room too.thanks Joe
 
I like white ceilings. If not white, then at least a bit lighter than the walls. If you are thinking resale, then yes, neutral is the key. A beige/gray kind of like a light putty color would probably tie all of the colors together in those rooms.
