I love taking portraits, especially of my kids. I'm living in Main so it's too cold to take them outside for pictures. But when I take them inside they have an orange tint no matter what my settings on my Sony Alpha A 330 are.

The cheapest solution would be a normal 'worklight' socket and a
PAR 75 or 150W quartz halogen lamp. (Home Depot etc.)
That will give you the bright, aimable, 'whiter' light you're looking for.
Those lamps operate at a higher than normal temperature so don't
leave it on for more than a few minutes at a time.
There are also CFL (compact screw in fluorescents),
available in higher, (bluer), color temperatures.
Look for 3000 and above on the labels.
('Fill in' with incandescents for best color balance.)

home depot shop lights plus really bright bulbs are a decent start. about $20 apiece.

You can also get a Vivitar 285HV flash and some Cactus V4 triggers, both for about $100. Great flash, and a great start for lighting.

The orange tint is likely the result of incandescent bulbs, and your white balance is set to daylight. change your WB to match the lighting you have around you.
