What causes yellowing in garden veggies?

I moved into my house 2 years ago and have been putting in the effort to establish a nice vegetable garden. I now have a very nice garden but some nutrient is missing from my soil because everything i planted is turning yellow and barely growing.
Please no answers that involve dumping miracle grow on it.
thanks

Iron chlorosis, happens a lot in clay and sandy soils, or nutrient deficient soils. Add iron chelate, aluminum sulphate, and acidifiers. All available at your local plant nursery. Add compost too, that breaks up the clay and clumps together sand.
