WHAT CAUSES THE ECM UNIT TO BURN OUT ON A JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE?

Have a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee and the ECM went out while the A/C compressor was being tested. Any relation? Coincidence? Car was running perfect prior to this.
