I have a street bike, and 5 times in the last 3 months i have had the same thing happen to my back tire. I ride my bike to school or home or wherever I need to be, and It is completely fine, no problems at all, the pressure is fine and everything. Then when I leave an hour or so later, it is completely flat. What would cause this?
Also, one time I tried inflating a tube that had been gone flat once before, and it retained the air perfectly for a couple hours, until I heard a 'pop' and it was flat. I am wondering if something is causing my tires to pop, and what it could possibly be, especially if I can re-inflate the old tubes after they have instantly gone flat once before.
Just so I can be perfectly clear too, the tubes usually last me at least a couple weeks before they fall apart as aforementioned, but every time they go instantly flat.
Another helpful piece of information may be that it is always my back tube and I ride with a pannier. I have checked the rim with soft toilet paper for snags, and I have done the same for the tire, but since it's rubber, the paper stuck everywhere. I didn't find anything.
I understand how a small leak could cause a tube to go flat over time, but in every case with me it goes flat in under an hour, after being fully inflated for weeks. And this always happens while it is not being ridden, which i would think would be a more likely time of puncture.
Could it be punctured in my commute and be leaking over the course of an hour, and I just don't notice while i'm on the bike?
