What causes a grinding noise when I drive, brake, and turn in 2000 Ford Ranger?

I have a 2000 Ford Ranger 4x4 with about 130,000 miles. Just recently I have a experienced a grinding /scraping sound that seems to be coming from the front passenger's side wheel. The noise is constant; it starts as soon as I start driving. It sounds like metal scraping concrete and gets deeper as I slow down and when I fully press my brake pedal it makes a really really deep grinding noise and it stops until I start driving again. It doesn't start making the really really deep grinding noise until the brake pedal is fully depressed. It is way worse when I turn left, but still makes the noise when I turn right. I can't bring it in to the mechanic until Friday or Saturday, but I am nervous it might be some kind of safety hazard. Any suggestions?

Your brake pads are gone, the metal is scraping on the rotor, Get it fixed asap and hopefully you wont have to replace the rotors too (more expensive). A brake shop will be able to do it for you if your mechanic is busy. It shouldent take too long to replace if you are short on time (30-45 minutes). It will take you longer to stop with them like that, but you are in no danger of total failure so just be safe when you drive there.
