What cause a 2008 Ford Focus to just stop accelerating?

You should check to make sure that the air filter is connected properly as there is a air flow meter at some point after it. If the air filter is not correctly secured you will experience the problems you are having. If this does not work you should try changing the inline fuel filter as that sometimes causes these problems as well. Good luck mate.

More than likely it's a fuel filter. Luckily this is fairly inexpensive to fix. Trash will get into your gas tank and eventually this will get into the filter causing the exact problems you describe. The filter has a screen in it and when the fuel pump is working it will push some of the trash onto the screen. When you shut it off or just let it idle it takes the pressure away letting the trash fall thus it will start running correctly until the trash build up again. Just replace the filter.

I have a 2008 Ford Foucs. Recently every now and then when we are driving the wrench light will come on and the gas pedal will no longer cause the car to accelerate. The car will not die, but when you press the gas pedal it has no effect, and the engine will idle very rough as if it wants to die. Then if we turn the car off let it sit for a second, it will restart and all is fine. Took it to a mechanic who plugged it in to the computer and nothing is registering??? Any help would be great.
