What car to have in Florida?

college loans + car loans = stressed
want to know the best car to have for the environment.

was looking @:

jeeps but they eat money in gas & convertibles eat money in insurance

what type of car will be friendly to my wallet and work for the Florida weather/atmosphere?
what about a Prius?
