What can you do to reduce your impact on the environment?

When I go to the grocery store, instead of having them bag my items in a paper or plastic bag, I bring reusable cotton bags. At Aldi you have to pay for paper or plastic bags, and I noticed almost everyone brought their own cotton bags. Imagine if every store was like that.
 
The best, but rather drastic, solution would be to die.

But I really don't want to do that.

Presumably, the best approach is to recycle. It has an immediate effect on energy usage, which is much less to recycle than to produce new stuff.
