what can you do for stiffness in the morning from lower back pains

I make sure I carefully turn several times during the night, sleeping on each side and on my back. I'm a light sleeper, so I'm able to consciously do that. When I first get up, I log roll and sit up carefully, then sit on the edge of the bed for a few minutes before standing up.

Once you're up, try some gentle stretching and a hot shower. I sometimes lay back down on my heating pad before I go downstairs after I'm washed and dressed.

Hope this helps,
Emily

I sometimes wake up extremely stiff. It tenRAB to last through the day.

Personally, I find the position I lie in is extremely important. I have trained myself to lie side on in the hip without 'twisting' in the lower back. A pillow between the legs can help me stay in this position. I find it helps a lot, and if I lie twisted (e.g. partly face down) I suffer in the morning. I was told once by a physio to avoid lying face down for my neck, and trained myself to avoid this. I used to suffer awful headaches once every month or two. I never get them any longer. Position, position, position, for me.

I agree that the position you sleep in makes all the difference. I am forced to lie on my back due to cervical issues and lurabar ones, but I put two pillows under my knees and that helps immensely. I move slowly in the morning, and usually after a hot shower, and making slow movements to squeegee the shower, towel dry, etc. as well as applying lotion to stiff areas, helps. I go to the YMCA and get in the warm water pool twice a week, walking, doing leg lifts, etc. and that keeps me moving. The key is to keep moving. I believe the quality of your mattress is also very important. You need to have proper support.

Yes yes yes! Position is very important!

I have a memory foam piece shaped like an hour glass that's meant for between the knees while sleeping. It's wonderful! I find it less curabersome than a pillow as I can turn over easily without having to reposition it. I got it at one of those big box linen stores. I also keep a little throw pillow against my chest when I'm on my side to keep my top arm from pulling on my spine. The pillow props it up and keeps my spine aligned so I have a lot less pain for sleeping and less stiffness when I wake up.

I wish I could get a sleep nuraber bed, but my husband says it's too expensive. I know he's right. But it's still on my wish list! Maybe one day...
