what can i use in my garden pond to clear it up thats safe for pets?

i am looking to add something in my plastic garden pond to clear and clean up the water and to stop mosquito's from it. but my dog has a bad Habit of drinking the water even thou she has her own....... all i can find is stuff that is harmful to animals. any suggestions??? thank you
 
usually they'll just tell you to empty the pond... clean it urself.... refill it up... and put ur pet in it...

I hate that way tho..
