what can i use for outdoor pests?

what can i use on ants for home remedy?i've used grits,from what i found to be somewhat helpful,but they come back...grits,once ingested in the queen,they swell up and die and there goes the colony..any suggestions?anything else i can use for outdoor ants w/o buying chemicals or anything from the store.
