What can I substitute for cooking sherry?

I have a chicken soup recipe that calls for 1/3c.of cooking sherry I don't want any alcohol in the recipe at all for personal reasons. Any suggestions?
No alcohol is aloud of any kind in the house. My father is an alcholic.
