What can I NOT delete from Program Files...backup folder?

I'm having slight problems with my Palm, stability-wise, and I have also installed like about 30 or so different shareware programs during the last few days and now I have found a good setup with few programs... So, I'd like to erase ALL program data from my C:\Program Files\palmOne\-myusernamehere-\Backup -folder. I think there must be some orphan files from my shareware tryouts so I'd like to play safe and clean my Palm totally before I install the suite of programs that I feel I really need.

To clarify, I like to keep calendar entries and To Do's but everything else can go. So what should I not delete? I am planning to first hard reset my Palm, then empty the above folder in WinXP (excluding the calendar etc. files) and then do a HotSync. Is that a good idea?

If you want to start fresh - rename the backup folder to old.

Hard Reset the device.

Hot Sync and pick the existing user name. This process will restore your calendar data and other PIM information as it is not stored in the backup directory. It's stored in named folders below the user name, address, calendar etc.

This will clear the device of all programs both but keep them in the backupold folder. No need to create a new backup folder - WinXP/PalmDesktop will do that automatically when you hot sync if.

Somepeople will suggest that you keep your Saved_Preference.prc file - I don't. I delete it as well so that the backup folder is totally empty. You stated you've had some stability issues and the Saved Prefer file holds that program information and it's corresponding settings which is why I suggest you delete it as well out of the backup and never restore it.
