What can I do with a broken wireless keyboard set?

I have a "Microsoft Wireless Comfort Keyboard 5000" set, which includes a keyboard mouse and a USB receiver of the wireless signals.

Today I tried to pull out the USB from the computer, and the receiver snapped. So now I am left with a perfectly functional keyboard and mouse, a rather expensive set for what it's functionally worth, that do not work because the receiver is completely dead.

For various reasons, I cannot contact Microsoft hardware and demand a replacement.

Is there anything I can do with the frustratingly unusable keyboard set? Is there anywhere I can get a replacement USB gadget? Or am I doomed because each set is uniquely identified or something? And if not, are there any possible uses for what I have left? I don't want to surrender them to recycling just yet.

Thank you so much.
